US$6M TRADE CENTRE FOR KASUMBALESA

The Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) has set aside six million US Dollars to establish a regional trade centre at Kasumbalesa border in Chililabombwe district on the Copperbelt.

ZCF Director of Projects, Derrick Sokoni, said when he called on Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary, Bright Nundwe, that the project will commence soon.

Mr. Sokoni said ZCF had already finalized all the legalities and what was remaining was a piece of land, adding that Chililabombwe Municipal Council had already been engaged on the matter.

He said because of the strategic location, the trade centre will be beneficial to the Copperbelt and the two neighbouring lower and upper Katanga provinces in the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC.

And Mr. Nundwe welcomed the investment.

ZANIS reported that Mr. Nundwe described the forthcoming trade centre as a stimulant that will remind people of the already existing market linkages in the region.

He said the establishment of a trade centre in the border town will create thousands of jobs and wealth among people not only in the district but the province at large.

Works on the trade centre are expected to start between September and October.
